Contract Opportunity: Senior Software Consultant – Centre of Excellence (CoE)
Location: City of London, London (Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week)
Start Date: 1st October 2025
Contract Type: Outside IR35
Duration: 12 months
Day Rate: Up to £650 per day
A Tier 1 consultancy is building a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to lead strategic transformation programmes across financial services. We are seeking senior consultants with deep technical expertise and commercial maturity to join a high-impact feature team focused on SME spend and expense management. This includes debit/credit card hosting, transaction controls, and expense tracking, with future priorities expanding into new feature areas and frontend modernisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Java (Spring Boot) and microservices
- Build and maintain frontend components using Angular, with future migration to React
- Lead client engagements and shape solution delivery from discovery through implementation
- Translate business requirements into actionable technical artefacts
- Implement CI/CD pipelines and ensure secure, performant code delivery in AWS
- Collaborate across disciplines to align technical solutions with business objectives
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, peer reviews, and internal knowledge sharing
Required Experience:
- 20+ years in software engineering or technical consulting
- Proven leadership of enterprise-scale teams or workstreams
- Strong consulting mindset with experience guiding clients through trade-offs and implementation
- Demonstrable experience in business case development and stakeholder engagement
- Technical proficiency across:
- Java 8+ / Spring Boot / REST APIs / Microservices
- Angular (React/Vue.js a plus), TypeScript, HTML/CSS/JavaScript
- CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI
- Docker, Kubernetes fundamentals
- SQL (PostgreSQL, MSSQL), NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Testing frameworks: JUnit, Mockito, Test Containers
- Kafka and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in cloud-native architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Ability to operate independently in client-facing environments
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Familiarity with API integration and third-party service orchestration
- Exposure to Sales & Trading or financial product domains is advantageous
