Opportunity: IT Project Manager (Technical / Greenfield)
Role Profile
-
Assignment: Initial Contract (Inside IR35)
-
Target Start: Early March 2026
-
Rate: £550 – £600 per day
-
Working Model: Remote-first (Limited travel to South East / London hubs)
-
Long-term View: Potential for permanent conversion for the right cultural fit.
The Challenge
Our client is a highly successful, partner-owned UK enterprise currently undergoing a significant period of growth via acquisition (M&A). While the business is commercially robust, the internal IT function is transitioning from a "reactive" state to a structured, governed department.
This is a "Greenfield" opportunity. You will not be stepping into a pre-existing PMO; you will be the one building the controls, the documentation, and the delivery standards from the ground up while simultaneously delivering high-priority stabilization and security projects.
Primary Responsibilities
-
Governance Architecture: Design and implement the project delivery lifecycle, documentation standards, and reporting controls from scratch.
-
Infrastructure & Cyber Uplift: Lead technical workstreams focused on estate stabilization, asset discovery, and security hardening.
-
M&A Integration: Act as the technical project lead for the integration of newly acquired entities into the core corporate environment.
-
Strategic Change: Guide the organization through the adoption of new technical standards, focusing on behavioral change and "hearts and minds" rather than rigid enforcement.
-
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Operate seamlessly between internal leadership and third-party delivery partners to ensure project alignment.
Candidate Requirements
Technical Heritage (Non-Negotiable)
-
The "Technical Origin": You must have started your career in a hands-on technical role (e.g., Infrastructure Engineer, Systems Admin, Developer). You need the technical "scars" to engage credibly with engineering teams.
-
Certification: Prince2 Practitioner.
-
Environment: Demonstrable experience in Enterprise IT, Infrastructure, or Cyber-focused project delivery.
Expertise & Style
-
PMO Builder: Proven experience establishing delivery frameworks in "low maturity" environments where no previous structure existed.
-
Relationship-Driven: This is a partnership-owned business with a deeply collaborative culture. You must be able to hold your ground constructively while maintaining a warm, trust-building interpersonal style.
-
Autonomy: Able to operate at a high level without a pre-defined playbook or significant day-to-day mentoring.
Why this role?
This isn't a standard "maintenance" PM role. It is a dual-impact position where you are both a Builder(creating the PMO framework) and a Deliverer(executing on the M&A roadmap). It is ideal for a seasoned contractor who enjoys the "heavy lifting" of professionalizing an IT department.
