6-Month Initial Term | Flexible Budget for Exceptional Experience

We are urgently seeking 2-3 Senior Payments Infrastructure Architects to join a major, high-profile payments transformation programme. This is a strategic role focused on designing and delivering interoperable, scalable payments infrastructure across core banking and consumer channels.

If you have a proven track record of architecting and delivering large-scale payment systems like Faster Payments, CHAPS, or SEPA, and can translate complex strategy into detailed technical reality, we want to hear from you.

What You Will Do:

  • Lead the architectural design and delivery of scalable payments infrastructure for account-to-account (A2A) and direct-to-consumer (D2C) flows.

  • Translate high-level strategic direction into detailed technical blueprints, specifications, and integration roadmaps —driving outcomes from concept to execution.

  • Ensure all designs promote interoperability and meet enterprise-grade requirements for resilience, security, and scalability.

  • Guide engineering teams and validate architectural decisions based on hands-on technical experience.

  • Navigate and operate effectively within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment with high delivery pressure.

Key Requirements & Experience:

  • Proven success architecting and delivering large-scale payment systems/infrastructure in retail banking or financial services.

  • Deep expertise in UK and international payment schemes including CHAPS, Faster Payments, and cross-border rails.

  • Strong practical familiarity with ISO 20022 standards and their implementation across messaging and integration layers.

  • Experience with enterprise-grade programmes or Financial Market Infrastructures(e.g., Euroclear, CLS, or comparable initiatives).

  • Ability to coordinate across business, technology, and vendor teams to achieve architectural outcomes.

Highly Desirable:

  • Prior involvement in CHAPS or ISO 20022 migration programmes.

  • Exposure to clearing and settlement systems.

  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance implications of payments infrastructure.

Details:

  • Role: Senior Payments Infrastructure Architect

  • Start Date: Immediate (November)

  • Engagement: Initial 6-month term, with potential extension

  • Location: Hybrid, London-based

  • Budget: Flexible for exceptional experience
